CSUB Awarded Two Significant Subsea Projects in the Middle East

One year in – two big contracts already secured. A promising start for our establishment in the Middle East.

Following CSUB’s venture in Qatar, we’ve now secured two significant contracts in the Middle East region. Joining efforts with key industry players to revolutionize the region’s oil and gas industry by making smarter and more environmentally friendly solutions available.

– This is incredible news. During our first year having a physical presence in Qatar, we have secured multiple big contracts for delivery of non-metallic subsea structures. It shows that our investment and commitment to further expand internationally is viable, and that our product is a legitimate alternative to traditional solutions, says General Manager for CSUB in the Middle East, Mathias Berg.

One of the contracts is a further collaboration with a client we’ve previously delivered cable bridges to, a delivery made before we even established local production in the region.

– The fact that they have turned to us once again, with an even bigger delivery this time, is a huge declaration of trust. Customer loyalty proves that GRP structures are competitive and meet the needs of the major industry players, Berg says and continues: – And we’re talking about large-scale bridges here – truly a sight to behold once completed. Contrary to some people’s beliefs, composites are far from simple plastics that only work on small structures. We work with the same advanced materials and technologies they use in critical structures across the aerospace and marine industries. This allows us to build remarkably large, long-span bridges with exceptional durability.

The other contract award is one of the biggest contracts yet in CSUB’s history, marking a great milestone for us.

– Our solutions simplify several of the challenges this client is facing in their project. This particular field has a lot of infrastructure, which requires effective and smart solutions, especially with regard to crossings. Due to the lightweight and stackability of GRP structures, our products solve many of the challenges faces during production, installation, and use, Berg explains.

Solves Local Production Challenges

Last year CSUB entered a partnership with Qatar Shipyard for local production of glass fibre reinforced polyester structures in Qatar. The characteristics of composite help solve some of the production challenges the region experiences. Short curing time and the ability to stack the structures gives composite structures a high utilization of production area and reduces bottlenecks.

– In addition to being production efficient, stackable non-metallic structures will offer flexibility regarding storage and logistics. Their light weight and stackability will reduce the need for campaigns and cranes in the installation process, Berg states and adds: – Having our own engineering department dedicated to GRP structures allows us to optimize the delivery by customizing in a way that streamlines and maximizes the value for our clients.

Subsea composite constructions are also more climate-friendly than other alternatives. Our solutions deliver a significantly lower carbon footprint and reduce emissions due to our production technique and the lifespan of the structures.

Tested and Well-Qualified for the Middle East

We have worked closely with strategic partners and collaborators to ensure a production of GRP structures in the Middle East that meets CSUB’s well-known standard.

The material have been tested with regard to Middle Eastern environmental loads such as high temperatures. The documentation and qualification phase has therefore been a crucial part of us establishing production in Qatar, and we’re now scaling up to deliver high quantities of structures on projects throughout the Middle East.

– Documenting the strength and design has been an important part of the process. For instance, we have replaced some of the raw materials with other more suitable for the local temperature conditions. Right now, we are in a phase where we’re staffing up and training workers, and we’re paving the way for a smarter and more environmentally friendly solutions with the ambition of making non-metallic structures the go-to solution for subsea structures.
