New division in Qatar marks significant milestone for CSUB

Mathias Berg becomes general manager of CSUBs new venture in the Middle East.

Following the landmark partnership agreement between CSUB and Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions, former VP of Market and Technology in CSUB, Mathias Berg, becomes General Manager for the new venture in Middle East.

Mathias joined CSUB in 2017, bringing with him extensive experience in the subsea industry. His deep knowledge of composite materials, along with valuable insights gained from his previous work in the Middle East and Far East region, will be instrumental in his new role as General Manager for the Middle East venture.

– It’s incredible to be a part of this new era. The Middle East is a market we have followed for a long time. It started with our first delivery to the North Field Production Sustainability project in 2022 and we are now increasing our focus and resources to gain a dominant market position for subsea GRP structures in the region. I look very much forward to leading this initiative and establish GRP as the preferred material for subsea structures in the region, he says.

Berg has already settled in Doha and is now ready for a busy epoch in Qatar. CSUB and Qatar Shipyard are in the process of planning the production site and are working together to prepare for the first contract awards. As part of the preparation, an initial production will take place later this fall to show our capabilities to our clients and have a GRP product locally that can give CSUBs clients a better understanding of what GRP is.

– We wanted to do this properly. By being present in the region, we will be much closer to our clients and will be able to follow up the fabrication such that we can guarantee the quality that CSUB is known for, Berg explains.

Sustainable and cost effective

This partnership marks a significant milestone for CSUB, being the first agreement for production of GRP in the Middle East for CSUB. Prior to this agreement our units have been produced in Europe, and then transported to projects in the Middle East.

– CSUB, with our expertise in design, engineering, production of GRP, see a great potential in the collaboration with Qatar Shipyard with their excellent HSEQ culture, world class shipyard with large facilities and a well trained work force. Together we can make GRP the go-to material for subsea structures in the Middle East region. These non-metallic solutions include subsea bridges, crossings, sleepers, foundations, and adjustable pipeline free span correction, among others, says CEO of CSUB, Anders Holm.

The establishment of production in Qatar ensures a sustainable and more environmentally friendly alternative for the energy industry in the area.

– We will now contribute with locally produced products in sustainable material, with a low carbon footprint. Making the development of new oil and gas fields eco-friendlier and more cost effective. We are confident that Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions are the right partner for us and are mighty impressed by the quality of work, and the HSE handling, we have seen so far, says Holm.

This partnership underscores our commitment to providing cutting-edge, sustainable solutions. It also marks the continuing work in expanding CSUBs reach and presence globally.

– By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to deliver exceptional value to our clients and stakeholders, underlines Holm.

Key Highlights of the Partnership Agreement:

  • Production: Collaborative production processes leveraging the strengths of both organizations to deliver superior GRP products.
  • Future Business Opportunities: Exploration of potential projects and business opportunities to further strengthen our partnership and expand our market reach.
